RCYC results have been corrected from original post [June 22nd 2014]

It s been a busy spring for the  Canadian 49er Class. With 3 Grand Prix Events completed and 6 remaining the season is well under way.

June 7th and 8th was the Ottawa Skiff Grand Prix. Ten 49ers and two FXs arrived to face the usual Ottawa challenge: a lack of wind. The sailors waited patiently on Saturday for the wind to fill in across the river. The RC was kind enough to let th racers wait on shore. Once a steady 6 knots was recorded, the fleet launched and started the first race. About halfway up the first leg, the wind died again. The race was shortened to finish at the first leeward gate but at least we had a race. Sunday proved to be even worse than Saturday with glassy water all day long. Congratulations to the light wind masters:

1st Paul and Alex Throop

2nd Gordon Cook and Anthony Lowther

3rd Mac Morrin and Sean Keyser

June 14 and 15th  was the RCYC Skiff Regatta. It was another light wind weekend but fortunately a few more races were sailed. The race committee ran only one race Saturday in some shifty conditions. The wind steadied out on Sunday and 5 races were completed. The Throop brothers cleaned up the regatta with bullets in every race. The 2nd place boat, Daniel Hernandez and Andy Brazier, finished 2nd with the 3rd place team Ben Gravelle and Spencer O’Brien only 1 point behind.  A big shout out to team Berry/Merry in the 49er FX who were quicker than some boys in 3 out of 5 races!

The 49er & FX fleet off to a great start in sunny, beautiful Toronto Harbour
